3.   CHANGING INSIDE  August 01

High Holy Day Preparation

Regardless of my initial expectations, G-d is always faithful to allow me to find a fresh approach to the Fall Feast season.  This year is no exception.

In preparation for this year’s High Holy Days I have been impressed to work on my inside -- my heart.  I believe that I am being re-worked from the inside out.  My tongue, my thoughts, my actions-all need work!  My desire is to be the very best that I can be, for my G-d, my family and friends, and our congregation.  This is no easy task!  It takes a willingness, a desire, to change.  I am willing, and I hope that all of you would be willing also.  G-d has met me more than half way, and He will do the same for you.

As I was searching through my files, I came across some of my “Life Messages.”  These are poems, sayings or notes that have important meaning to me.  The one I want to share with you has particular inner searching and changing associated with it.  Please let me know what you think about it.

Three Gates

If you are tempted to reveal

A tale to you someone has told

About another, make it pass,

Before you speak, three gates of gold.

These narrow gates: First, “Is it true?”

Then, “Is it needful?” In your mind

Give truthful answer.  And the next

Is last and narrowest, “Is it kind?”

And if to reach your lips at last

It passes through these gateways three,

Then you may tell the tale, nor fear

What the result of speech may be.

I try to commit to these three things before I speak:  Is it true?  Is it necessary?  Is it kind?  Even though I do not ALWAYS succeed, I plan to more carefully try during this season of preparation of the heart.  I may be quiet more often!

Love and blessings,

Shari
