BERESHEET
Genesis 1:1-6:8
Isaiah 42:5-43:10
John 1:1-15
In the
beginning, HaShem created (prepared, formed, fashioned) the heavens and
the earth.
Beresheet
describes the beginning of creation (chapter 1); the history of mankind
(chapter 2); the entrance of sin and death, as well as the promise of
redemption (chapter 3); human civilization (4:16); the choice of G-d’s
special, peculiar people, the apple of His eye, the Jewish people.
As we
begin this New Year with the beginning of His Torah, we must realize that
this book is not just about the history of mankind. It is the start of a
great journey where we look into our own history and see that we have a
share in this book, in this world, in this life.
We start
our journey with the basic premise that this world was created by our
Father (G-d) and it is His, we belong to Him and know that the purpose of
His creation is us.
“…and G-d
created man in His own image, in the image of G-d created He man, in the
likeness of G-d He made man,” (Genesis 1:27, 5:1).
Psalm 8:4
asks, “What is man that You are mindful of him, and the Son of man
(earthborn) that You care for him?”
Psalm 8:5
continues that we have been made a little lower than angels, and we have
been crowned with glory and honor. We are the privileged children that
G-d wants to give dominion over the world of His hands. He chose to walk
in the cool of the day with Adam, and with us (Genesis 3:8).
We were
redeemed by the precious blood of Messiah and are written in the Lamb’s
Book of Life, and G-d now dwells (tabernacles) within our hearts until the
day He personally dwells here on earth.
As the
parable of the Ten Maidens (Matthew 25:1-13) we are warned that we must
remain vigil against the craftiness of the evil one (Genesis 3:1, 2
Corinthians 11:3) for he is a deceiver, a liar, a murderer (John 8:44), as
well as a lion who devours (1 Peter 5:8-9).
We, who
are now called by His name, must be like Noah, Abraham and Sarah who
believed in Him. He is the Creator of us all and it was counted unto
those who believed as righteousness, and they were saved in their
generation.
So, we
must maintain our walk with Him in the cool of the day, in the Garden, and
we shall ever be with Him.
