Sarah----Life of Sarah
Torah:
Genesis 23:1-25:18
HAFTORAH:
Kings 1:1-31
Brit
Chadesha: 1Corinthians 15:50-57
Matthew
1:1-17
This Parasha begins with the statement; "Sarah lived to be
one hundred and twenty-seven years and she died." The rest of the reading
tells us of Rivkah (Rebecca ); how she is chosen to be the next matriarch.
Eliezer the servant of Abraham is asked to bring back a wife for Isaac.
Meanwhile after Abraham buys the Machpelah from Ephron the Hittite as a
place to bury Sarah, he marries Keturah and fathers six more sons.
At the age of one hundred and seventy-five Abraham dies.
Sarah and Abraham lived a full life and left a legacy not
only to their son and his decedents, but down to us who have become the
children of Abraham by faith.
A legacy according to Webster's New World Dictionary is
stated as anything that is handed down as from an ancestor.
In Genesis 18:19; God tells Abraham that he was chosen
because he will direct his children and his household after him to keep
the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will
bring about to Abraham what He has promised him.
What was the promise? Genesis 12 tells us that G-d will
bless him and make him into a great nation, and also that he will be a
blessing to all the nations. All this was, and is, the great plan of our
G-d; to reach all the people of the nations. Abraham did not see this in
his time but in Galatians 3: 8-9 we are told that G-d foresaw the nations
would be justified by faith, thus all who have faith are blessed along
with Abraham, the man of faith.
Be faithful and you shall be a blessing to all, as a legacy
to all who follow.
