Set Apart
The Torah portion discusses how one should walk and follow a path that
leads to holiness. The Kohanim, the priests, have a much higher standard
of responsibility. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and
much more is required from those to whom much more is given (Luke 12:48).
Nachmanides, a famous Rabbi who wrote many commentaries including a Bible
commentary during the 12th century, states that the commandment
to the priests is expressed twice (say…and tell them) in order to stress
the importance. The activities and actions of the priests sometimes need
to go against prevalent habits and thoughts of the culture around them.
We, too, have been set apart for sacred use. We have been sanctified
through the work of the Ruach HaKodesh (1Peter 1:2)
We, like the priests (Kohanim), are told to set our affection on things
above (Col 3:2, 17). Whatever we do, we need to do to the glory of G-d.
We must abstain from the appearance of evil (1Thess. 5:22).
The priests were to remain pure, behave as ambassadors for G-d, and get
rid of all bad behavior and deceit. We are to crave pure spiritual milk
so we can grow into the fullness of our salvation.
Our source of empowerment to be holy must be the Ruach HaKodesh. For the
Spirit empowers us to life, wisdom and the power of G-d. Let us all serve
G-d with all joy, as He is the source of life and joy.
