Matthew 5-7
Once again we start reading about the father of our faith
who was instrumental in bringing us the knowledge of the one true G-d of
the universe.
We begin by the command to Avram to leave his country and
his father’s home, and go to a land he did not know. G-d spoke to Avram
telling him that he would be blessed and that he would have many decedents
who would become a great nation.
On his journey he is forced to go to Egypt by reason of a
famine, where Pharaoh took Sarah for his harem after being told that Sarah
was Avram's sister (A little lack of faith by the father of faith). After
the truth is found out, Avram and his family are sent out of Egypt and
back to Canaan land where he rescues his nephew Lot from the Kings of the
East (Chedorlaomer is their leader).
G-d then gives Abraham gifts. Abraham gives a tenth to the
King of Salem (Melchitzedek).
This portion ends with the births of Ishmael and Isaac, and
the circumcision of the sign of the covenant.
The bible has many verses that tell us to search the
scriptures, for in them is life. Part of understanding what G-d has
promised to us through Abraham, is to learn to have faith in our G-d who
has given us blessings and has imparted unto us the knowledge that we
stand on the pillar of truth. Having the truth means we have Emunah, or
faith, in the foundations that G-d has given. We must not allow fear to
take the blessing that G-d has given to us (like Abraham did when he
almost blew it by telling King Pharaoh that Sarah was his sister). Faith
is sometimes hard to have due to circumstances beyond our understanding.
However we must not let any circumstances take or rob us of our promises
in G-d, and what He has for us. G-d has given us a vision full of hope and
blessings. Let us not give in to our fears and discouragement's; but let
us apply the word of our G-d to trust and walk in His promises, just as
Abraham believed G-d and it was counted unto him as righteousness. G-d has
something great for all of us, especially as one, united Mishpucha.
