ROSH HASHANAH

Genesis 21:1-34

Genesis 22:1-24

Numbers 29:1-6

1 Samuel 1:1-2,10

Jeremiah 31:2-20

1 Thess. 4: 13-17

Above are the Torah, HafTorah (Prophets) and Brit Chadesha readings for Rosh Hashanah.  The theme is taken from Leviticus 23, G-d's appointed Feasts and Festivals.  This is a season for individual and collective (communal) introspection and repentance.  We also prepare for the coming of the King.

Numbers 10:1-10 tells us about the Shofar; how to make it and when to use it.  We know that the Shofar is used to call and assemble G-d's people to gather together before the anointed prophet (Moshe, Aaron).  The Shofar is also sounded as a call to war/battle (Joshua) and to break down mighty walls and barriers.

The expectancy in this Torah reading is based upon the promise of a son made to Abraham and Sarah, and the fulfillment of that promise.  We know that we are looking forward to the time that Yeshua, the Son of Promise (Isaiah 16:5), sits in the Sukkah (Tabernacle) of David.  We are to be living in an atmosphere of expectancy for His return.  We are to watch and wait for Him (Mark 13:35-37).

I appeal to you, therefore brethren, and beg of you, in view of all the mercies of G-d, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies presenting all your members and faculties as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to G-d which is your reasonable service and worship.  Therefore do not be conformed to this age in order for us to be ready for the last trump, which calls to the attention of the coming of the King. (Romans 12:1-2, 1Thes 4:15-18)

Let this year truly be a year of transformation for you.  Be ready!  Be expectant!

L’Shana Tova
