The Eighth Day Of Passover, In The
Diaspora
Devarim/Deuteronomy 14:22-16:17
Bamidbar/Numbers 28:19-25
2 Samuel
10:32-12:6
Trapped between the Sea and the Egyptians, the Children of
Israel fear that they were brought out to the desert to die at the edge of
the Sea. But G-d, once again, shows mercy and salvation when He stands
between the Children of Israel and Pharaoh, after he has a change of heart
in letting Israel go. We know that G-d wanted to show His power to the
Egyptians and Israel. He is the One and Only G-d, and no false god of
Egypt (the world) could harm us. G-d is our Protector, our Guardian.
G-d shows all His
salvation when He splits the Sea by the hand of Moses and the Israelites
cross on dry land. Then His power when the Sea crashed down upon the
Egyptians. Then there is a victory song, the song of the Sea.
We too, must trust G-d
and His word for our salvation from sin and whatever circumstance we may
find ourselves that need deliverance. We must trust G-d’s word. If it
speaks clearly on any issue, no need to “pray about it.” (Psalms 119:105,
130; Proverbs 6:23; Hebrews 4:12)
The Children of Israel
needed to learn trust in G-d by gaining a vision of what G-d had for
them. They were to receive freedom, a land, and a mission to bring the
knowledge of the One True G-d to the whole world. They, just as we, must
learn that without a vision for the future, one will perish (Proverbs
29:18).
At this festive season
of Passover we are celebrating our freedom, redemption and salvation.
Just as He made us go thru the waters of the sea as our ancestors did, we
have gone thru the waters of the Mikvah (immersion) and come out a new
people. We are restored from death to life in Messiah and freed from sin
and death.
