Deuteronomy 3:23-7:11
Isaiah
40:1-26
Mark
12:28-34
This week we begin the second Torah Portion of the book of
Deuteronomy. Also this week begins seven weekends before the High Holy
days.
Here we are told of how Moses asks G-d to allow him to
enter the land of promise. Moses sees the land of Israel from high on top
of Mt. Pisgah after G-d tells him that he will not be able to enter the
Land of Israel.
Moses then continues the history lesson and tells not only
the Israelites, but us as well, about the Exodus from Egypt, the giving of
the Torah, and that our G-d is the only G-d and there is no one besides
Him.
Moses then tells the Israelites that they will turn away
from G-d, and in turn G-d will exile them. As they are told about their
future of exile, G-d also tells them that they will repent and He will in
turn bring them back to the Land and to His Torah.
The Torah portion then ends with the of the repetition of
the Ten commandments, the recitation of the Shema (Hear O Israel), the
commandments of Tefillin (Phylacteries) and the placement of the Mezuzot
on the doorways of our homes.
In John 14;23, it states that if anyone loves Me, he will
keep My word. My Father will love them, and We will come to them and make
our home with them.
In the Shema we are told by G-d to love Him with all our
hearts, strength and mind. Also we are to have Him in our thoughts,
our hearts all our being. In other words we are to have G-d with us
wherever we are. G-d does not want us to be just weekend warriors; I.E.,
one day a weekend people, but a consistent walker with Him. G-d always
wants us to be at home with Him.
As it is written in Acts 17:28; "For in Him we live and
move and exist...."
