And He went out
Torah: Genesis 28:10-32:3
HafTorah Hosea 12:12-14:10
Brit Chadesha John 1:43-51
As we
progress with the history of Jacob, he is now heading up to Charan, to
uncle Laban's home. Here he is to meet his B’shert (soul mate). Jacob
stays in uncle Laban's home for twenty years after he was fooled to marry
Leah first, then his beloved Rachel.
To Jacob
were born 12 sons and one girl (Dinah). The boys are Reuben, Shimon, Levi,
Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Joseph, and Benjamin
on the way to Bethlehem.
Jacob's
exile from The Promised land ends at the end of twenty years and he leaves
for home after making a peace pact with uncle Laban.
This week I
felt that I need to write about seeking your soul mate for life. In
Genesis Chapter 29 verse 16; it is stated that Laban had two daughters;
one named Leah, and the other Rachel. Here it tells of how Jacob fell in
love with Rachel and asked for her hand in marriage from her father, his
uncle Laban.
Though we
learn that Laban is a cheat and a scoundrel, I am writing on how one
should go about seeking a spouse. Biblical times involved more parental
arranging for marriage. Today customs are more the decision of young
adults. For those seeking G-d's choice for their future mate the
scriptures tell us that we need to yield to G-d's will.
Psalm
37:3-4 states that we need to trust G-d, do good, dwell in the land and
enjoy His safety. Delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of
your heart. Also you should seek advice of your parents. The book of
Proverbs chapter 6:20-25 tells us to keep our father's commands and not
forsake your mother's teaching; for they will guide you; watch you; and
speak to you.
Also as you
consider who is to be your soul mate; consider 2Corinthians 6:14; to not
be unequally yoked. Do not look thru lustful eyes. Look for someone who
loves G-d; sets an example for others to follow after G-d and not after
darkness (no light in their life). Keep yourself pure avoiding any
immoralities and be in control of your body and mind (1Theselonians
4:3-4).
God bless
this reading and His will for you.
